Horses

The Horses section is your barn's central list of every horse. From here you can search and filter your horses, switch between views, open a horse's profile, and add or import new horses. Horses is available on every plan (Essential and Pro).

Opening the Horses list

Go to Horses in the main navigation. Each horse appears as a card showing its photo, name, show name, location, stall location, and owner. Horses you pin stay at the top of the list.

If you haven't added any horses yet, you'll see "You haven't added anything yet." If your filters or search return nothing, you'll see "No results found."

Searching and filtering

A filter bar sits above the list with the following controls:

FilterWhat it does
Search By NameType to find horses by name.
StatusFilter by a horse status defined for your barn. The list also includes All and Archived (choosing Archived shows archived horses instead of active ones).
HealthFilter by a health value.
LocationsFilter by an active barn location.
FunctionsFilter by a function (for example, the horse's job or discipline).

The Status, Health, Locations, and Functions options are drawn from the values set up for your barn, so the choices you see reflect your own data. Changing any filter returns you to the first page of results.

List and grid views

On desktop, use the view toggle on the right of the filter bar to switch between:

  • Grid view (card layout) — the default.
  • List view — a row-per-horse layout.

On smaller screens, horses always appear as cards.

Paging through horses

The list is paginated. At the bottom you can:

  • Choose how many horses appear per page (12, 24, or 36).
  • Move between pages with the pager.
  • See a count such as "1 - 12 of 110."

Actions on a horse card

When you have edit access, each card has a pin control and a menu with these actions:

  • Pin / Unpin — keep a horse at the top of the list.
  • Download — download the horse's details.
  • Discharge — generate a discharge report for the horse.
  • Edit — open the horse in the edit wizard.
  • Archive — archive the horse (archived horses are found via the Archived status filter).

Adding and importing horses

Use the Create Horse button to add a horse, or the Import button to bring in horses from a CSV file or from USEF. (The Import button is hidden on mobile and smaller screens, and the buttons appear only if you have edit access to horses.) See Adding & Importing Horses for the full steps.

Opening a horse profile

Click a horse's name (or open it from its card) to go to its profile. The profile holds the horse's details plus tabs for activity, events, records, tasks, posts, feed, and reports. See The Horse Profile.

How horses connect to the rest of BarnManager

A horse links many parts of the product together. From a horse profile (or by filtering elsewhere by horse) you can reach:

  • Records — health and other records for the horse (vaccination, dental, farrier, deworming, and more).
  • Feed — the horse's feed plan.
  • Calendar — events involving the horse.
  • Tasks — to-do items tied to the horse.
  • Posts — posts about the horse.

Several of these tabs are plan-gated and also depend on your permissions: Feed, Records, Calendar, and Reports require Essential.
