Posts
What Posts are
Posts are BarnManager's barn update feed. Use them to share announcements, photos, and updates with your team and to keep a running record of communication tied to specific horses. Each post has an author, a date, a visibility setting, an optional title and message, optional attachments, and any horses it relates to. Team members can comment on posts.
Posts are available on every plan. In the code and some screens, posts are also referred to as "conversations."
You can reach posts in two places:
- The standalone Posts page from the main navigation, which shows every post you have access to.
- The Posts tab on a horse's profile, which shows only the posts related to that horse.
Creating a post
- Open Posts, or open a horse and go to its Posts tab.
- Select Create Post.
- Set Visible To:
- Public — visible to everyone in the barn (shown with an "Everyone" label).
- Private — then choose a Visibility Type:
- Group — pick an existing group under Select Group.
- Individual Users — pick specific people under Select Users.
- Enter a Title, a Message, or both. You must provide at least one of the two.
- Optionally add attachments (see below).
- Optionally assign Horses. Use the Horses dropdown to pick one or more, or use Advanced Select for filtered selection. When you create a post from a horse's profile, that horse is pre-selected.
- Save the post. It appears at the top of the feed.
Creating and editing posts requires write permission for conversations. If you don't see the Create Post button, ask an admin to adjust your role at /admin/users-permissions.
Attachments
When creating or editing a post, select Add Attachment to upload files. Image attachments display as a photo grid on the post; other file types show as downloadable file tiles. You can preview an attachment before posting and remove any attachment you've added.
Comments
Open a post to view and add comments. The comment box supports:
- Plain text, with @ mentions to notify specific people.
- File and image attachments.
- GIFs and emoji.
You can edit or delete your own comments. The comment count and the avatars of people who have commented show on the post in the feed.
Pinning, archiving, and deleting
Each post has a more-actions menu (the "..." icon) with the following actions, subject to your permissions:
| Action | What it does |
|---|---|
| Pin / Unpin | Pins the post to the top of the feed. Pinned posts appear first (except when sorting alphabetically). |
| Edit | Reopens the post in the editor to change visibility, title, message, attachments, or horses. |
| Archive | Removes the post from the default feed and files it under archived posts. |
| Restore | Returns an archived post to the active feed (shown only on archived posts). |
| Delete | Permanently removes the post. |
Finding posts
The Posts page provides controls above the feed:
- Search — filter posts by text.
- Sort By — Original Post Date, Last Updated, By Latest Comment, or Alphabetically A-Z.
- Show By — All Posts or Archived.
Use Load More Posts at the bottom to page through older posts.
How posts relate to horses
A post can be assigned to one or more horses. Assigned horses appear on the post, and the post shows up on each of those horses' Posts tabs. This makes Posts a simple way to keep horse-specific updates and history alongside the rest of a horse's record. A post does not have to be assigned to any horse.
